![]() Office on the web is a version of the software that runs within a web browser. Microsoft also maintains mobile apps for Android and iOS. The original, and most widely used version, is the desktop version, available for PCs running the Windows and macOS operating systems. Office is produced in several versions targeted towards different end-users and computing environments. It contains a word processor ( Word), a spreadsheet program ( Excel) and a presentation program ( PowerPoint), an email client ( Outlook), a database management system ( Access), and a desktop publishing app ( Publisher). Microsoft also positions Office as a development platform for line-of-business software under the Office Business Applications brand. Over the years, Office applications have grown substantially closer with shared features such as a common spell checker, Object Linking and Embedding data integration and Visual Basic for Applications scripting language. Initially a marketing term for an office suite (bundled set of productivity applications), the first version of Office contained Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, and Microsoft PowerPoint. It was first announced by Bill Gates on August 1, 1988, at COMDEX in Las Vegas. Microsoft Office, or simply Office, is a family of client software, server software, and services developed by Microsoft. You can consider Office Lens a personal scanner of sorts that can help you digitize handwritten text. Just remember that the program isn’t magical, so if you took a photo with a low resolution camera, don’t expect it to create quality out of nothing. You can easily import the photos that you need to decipher and apply the filters directly to them. While Office Lens shows its true power when you use it from a mobile phone, it can still be helpful as a desktop app. Choose one depending on what you photographed and see if the app manages to add some details to the scribbling. However, the most useful feature is that it will try to make the picture as clear as possible using one of three filters: Document, White Board and Business Card. Thus, it will trim the picture accordingly, so you only get the part that you’re interested it. When you take pictures of papers or whiteboards with your computer’s camera, Office Lens can automatically detect them. How many times have you taken a picture of a whiteboard during a meeting or of some notes on a white piece of paper, only to find out later that you can’t really understand the writing? Well, Office Lens is an application that aims to fix that. This isn’t about emails or memos or anything like that, but more about the information that isn’t digital, because, like it or not, we still write stuff down. In fact, it sometimes travels so fast that you hardly even have time to store it. Information travels fast in an office environment.
